International competition “Russian Teddy Bear. International competition in linguistics Little Bear linguistics for everyone

Among the numerous competitions for schoolchildren, the international Olympiad “Russian Bear Cub - Linguistics for Everyone” is very popular. Over the years, the number of participants has increased from several tens of thousands to several million in 2017-2018. In addition to Russia, this Olympiad is also held in other countries of the world. The greatest interest in it is shown by Russian-speaking residents of the so-called “post-Soviet space” (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, etc.).

Organizers

“Russian Bear” has been held since 2000 jointly by several organizations, in particular:

  • Slovo LLC;
  • LLC "Igra";
  • "Vyatka Center for Continuing Education";
  • “Center for additional education of gifted schoolchildren” (Kirov).

According to established tradition, the scientific supervision and general support of the competition is provided by the Institute of Linguistics at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RGGU, Moscow).

Mission of the competition

The main goal of “Russian Bear” is to provoke interest in the Russian language among young people and improve the literacy of the younger generation. In addition, the founders of the Olympiad claim that it helps prepare for exams. Separately, competition games with the same name are held for school teachers, as well as for people studying Russian as a foreign language. The central organizing committee of the competition, which is based in Kirov, includes employees of the Russian State University for the Humanities, leading linguists of the country, and candidates of philological sciences. They are also members of the Methodological Commission, which develops test items.

Requirements for participants

All interested schoolchildren, starting from the second grade, are allowed to participate in the “Russian Bear Cub” in 2018-2019. First graders can try their hand at it privately. The Olympiad is held in educational institutions that have been authorized by the central or regional organizing committee of the Russian Bear Cub. For official registration, the status of an educational institution (municipal school, non-state gymnasium, etc.) does not matter.

A mandatory requirement for potential participants is payment of a monetary contribution. Its size is geographically differentiated, usually it is 70-80 rubles (the largest amount for Moscow and some other territories). Orphans, disabled children and boarding school students are exempt from paying the mandatory financial contribution. They need to submit the relevant documents.

Important! This competition is not commercial; the fee paid is used to cover organizational costs, as well as to purchase valuable gifts for the winners and runners-up.

On the official website of the competition www.rm.kirov.ru you can find statistics and tasks for past years that will help schoolchildren, their parents and teachers better prepare for the Olympiad.

Organizational matters

“Russian Bear Cub” is held at a time, without preliminary selection, usually in mid-November. Competitions are held in registered educational institutions, in person. Participants must carefully fill out the forms with the competition tasks that were previously sent to the regions. They include test questions of three levels of difficulty with multiple choice answers (28 questions for elementary grades, 30 for all others). The tasks differ markedly depending on the age of the participants. A total of five target groups have been identified:

  • students in grades 2-3;
  • students in grades 4-5;
  • students in grades 6-7;
  • students in grades 8-9;
  • students in grades 10-11.

Questions require students not only to have formal knowledge, but also to have imagination, creativity, intuition and even a sense of humor. To answer most questions correctly, in-depth study of the Russian language and literature is not necessary.

The exact date of the competition is set in advance. The time allotted for completing tasks is usually about one and a half hours. During the competition, competitors should not consult with each other or receive any tips from adults. You cannot use dictionaries, textbooks, cheat sheets or any electronic devices. Violations of the rules of the Olympiad result in disqualification.

The work is checked by a special evaluation commission consisting of professional philologists, linguists, and research staff of the Russian State University for the Humanities. In January-February 2019, the central organizing committee will announce the results of the Olympiad, which will be sent to all educational institutions participating in the competition. The laureates are given diplomas and also given various prizes (mugs with competition emblems, medals, badges, key rings, pens, brochures, etc.). Each participant is entitled to receive a commemorative certificate.

To discuss controversial situations, competition results and other topics, the competition organizers created a special Internet forum cdoosh.ru/forum/index.php. Anyone can register on this resource and ask questions that interest them.

Most of the Russian Bear participants do not become professional philologists or linguists. The organizers of this gaming competition do not pursue such goals. However, the Olympiad gives children and teenagers the opportunity to test themselves, test their knowledge of the Russian language, and overcome common fears and phobias before the inevitable exams. The acquired experience and skills of the “Russian Bear Cub” participant will certainly be useful in further studies and for a successful career in the future.

Today, the fifteenth of November, the “Russian Bear Cub” competition is taking place, in which schoolchildren of different age categories took part.

The questions were divided into 5 groups - 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 and 10-11 grades.

The “Russian Bear” competition helps spread the Russian language in Armenia and contributes to the development and improvement of linguistic thinking in children, making them want to learn new foreign languages.

In 2017-2018, all schools in the Russian Federation will host the “Russian Bear Cub - Linguistics for Everyone” Olympiad, designed to introduce students to the world of linguistics in a new and interesting format, different from the traditional memorization of rules and performing monotonous tasks. What is this event, and what should teachers, parents and children prepare for?

This international gaming Olympiad in the Russian language, established back in 2000, covers not only the territory of Russia and neighboring countries. It also takes place in such states as:

  • Japan;
  • India;
  • Greece;
  • Israel;
  • Poland;
  • Cuba;
  • Great Britain;
  • Mongolia, etc.

Important! The day of the intellectual competition is the same for all Russian schools, gymnasiums and lyceums. It usually falls in autumn, namely in the first half of November. This academic year the event will take place on the 15th of this month (Wednesday).

The organizers of the Olympiad are centers for additional education of gifted schoolchildren, Igra LLC and Slovo LLC, and its scientific supervisors are professors from the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian State University for the Humanities.

“Russian Bear” 2017-2018 will not change traditions, and, as before, will be for students:

  1. A game that includes non-standard tasks and tests the child’s ability to think logically, show ingenuity and analyze.
  2. The opportunity to add at least a participant certificate to your portfolio, and at maximum a distinctive certificate or diploma. Such achievements, issued in a uniform manner, can serve well when entering a university.
  3. An event that is comfortable from the point of view of organizational aspects. To take part in it, you will not need to travel outside the walls of the educational institution, because the competition itself will find and come to interested children.

Important! Absolutely everyone should be allowed to participate in the competition, from 2nd to 11th grade. Teachers do not have the right to pre-select applicants or prohibit students from writing an Olympiad, even in cases where their current level of performance in the Russian language leaves much to be desired.

The event includes 5 parallel intellectual competitions, which are compiled and developed depending on the age of the participants. Thus, the same set of tasks awaits students:

  1. 2-3 grades.
  2. 4-5 grades.
  3. 6-7 grades.
  4. 8-9 grades.
  5. 10-11 grades.

The general verification procedure is as follows:

  1. After writing the test, the completed forms are delivered to the territorial organizing committee, and from there they are sent to the capital.
  2. In January/February, educational institutions receive documents indicating what place each specific student took in the all-Russian list in his age category.
  3. At the end, the participants who score the most points are awarded prizes.

The 2017-2018 “Russian Bear Cub” competition will also be held in colleges and technical schools whose educational course programs include professional language learning. The Olympiad will not bypass the teaching community either; for its representatives it will take place on March 11 and 12, 2018.

Structure and organizational aspects

For representatives of elementary, middle and high schools there is a test consisting of 30 (28 for students of 2nd and 3rd grades) entertaining questions. The complexity of the exercises varies, but here no one will oblige the child to explain his thoughts and write out lengthy solutions on several pages. You will need to submit a special form in which you will need to circle one letter from the 5 answer options proposed in each task in 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes).

How to take part in the event? For the current year, this issue is no longer relevant - the fact is that the acceptance of applications ended on October 13. Registration, the cost of which ranged from 70 to 80 rubles depending on the region, was carried out by class teachers and teachers of educational institutions. To participate in the 2018-2019 school year, children will also need to contact them.

Preparation

You can view the list of tasks for preparing for the Russian Bear Olympiad 2017-2018 on the official website rm.kirov.ru in the “Tasks” tab located to the left of the main window. On the newly opened page, you will be able to download both the tasks themselves and the answers to them in order to preliminary assess your own language level and get an idea of the essence of the event.

Those who claim a higher result will need to put more effort into preparation. In this case, it will be impossible to do without:

  • extracurricular reading of additional fiction;
  • conscientious and thoughtful study of the school curriculum in the subject;
  • love and respect for language and interest in the initial aspects of linguistics.

Objective benefit

One of the main positive features of the “Russian Bear” 2017-2018 will be that, as before, it will provide the student with the opportunity to get acquainted with the format of the official examination certifications awaiting him in the future - the OGE and the Unified State Exam. It is this annual Olympiad that helps overcome the fear of serious work. The materials for the assignments, the forms and principles for filling them out, and observing the allotted time as one of the prerequisites frighten the child the less, the more often he encounters this.

In addition, there are no winners and losers here - each student can calmly and measuredly track their own progress from year to year. Regardless of what score out of a possible 100 a participant receives, the competition will be an excellent help for training his mind, developing memory, erudition, thinking and acquiring qualitatively new knowledge.

We invite you to take part in the next competition "Russian Bear - linguistics for everyone" . It will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2013. All interested students in grades 2-11 can participate, without any pre-selection. The game takes place in five age groups: 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 and 10-11 grades. Each of them will be offered its own version (from 28 to grades 2-3, and from 30 to the rest) of tasks in the Russian language and linguistics, most of which are within the capabilities of an ordinary school student. If desired, first-graders can also try their hand (according to options for grades 2-3). There is no need to write solutions: just choose the correct answer from the five proposed options and mark its number on a special form. 1 hour and 15 minutes are allotted for work, so no one will have time to get tired. The results of the competition are summarized separately by class. By February 5, schools will receive reports with the results of their participants and the place of each in the all-Russian list of their parallel, all participants in the game will receive corresponding certificates, and the best will receive prizes.

Competition-game “Russian Bear - linguistics for everyone” ( official site ) is the younger brother of the popular international mathematics competition “Kangaroo - Mathematics for Everyone”. “Little Bear” was first held in 2000 on the initiative of the Kirov Center for Additional Education of Gifted Schoolchildren with the support of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian State University for the Humanities and the Russian Organizing Committee “Kangaroo”.

Interest in the game is constantly growing. There are two reasons for the popularity of Little Bear. First of all, it's accessible. The game is held directly in schools, takes only about an hour and a half, and everyone can participate in it. There is no need to write down solutions - just select one of the five proposed answer options and mark its number on a special form; among the 30 tasks there are both difficult and very easy ones, so that almost every participant manages to complete at least several of them correctly. Secondly, the compilers try to select tasks that require not only (and not so much) knowledge of the rules, but also general culture, logic and reflection, and sometimes a sense of humor. After all, the main goal of the game is to show the beauty of the Russian language, to overcome the idea of it as a formal and boring subject.

The methodological commission of the competition works at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian State University for the Humanities. The main authors of the problems are teachers, graduate students and graduates of the Russian State University for the Humanities and Moscow State University. The Institute of Linguistics is holding a seminar “Genres and Types of Linguistic Problems”, one of the practical goals of which is to compile and discuss problems for this competition. The seminar participants are willing to do this; many students have already managed to create good problems.

The competition tasks are intended for schoolchildren of different ages: from 2nd to 11th grade. The compilers are preparing 5 sets of tasks: for grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 and 10-11. For the youngest - 26 (since 2009 28) problems, for other age groups - 30. In recent years, the online competition “Russian Teddy Bear for Teachers” has also been organized and is becoming popular, for which the methodological committee is preparing 12 difficult problems.

The Little Bear test problems differ significantly from self-sufficient Olympiad problems not only in type, but also in compactness and execution time (each problem takes several minutes to solve). Among them there are some very elementary ones, and some that experts can puzzle over. All problems compiled for the competition are carefully checked by members of the methodological commission; many of them have to be rejected, since the problems must satisfy a number of different parameters. After checking the solutions to the problems using a computer, a statistical analysis of the solutions is carried out, which shows the level of complexity of the problem and identifies typical errors, which is taken into account when writing solutions and comments published in collections, as well as when drawing up versions of next year’s problems.

Here are just a few examples of tasks:

2. The words are given: everything, nothing, no one, why, hollow.
How many of these can be understood as genitive forms?
(A) one; (B) two; (At three o'clok; (D) four; (D) five.

3. Find the subjects in the phrases:
(1) The torero put on the sombrero and (2) The sombrero put on the torero.
(A) (1) bullfighter and (2) sombrero;
(B) (1) sombrero and (2) bullfighter;
(B) (1) bullfighter and (2) bullfighter;
(D) (1) sombrero and (2) sombrero;
(D) there are no subjects.

4. Which of the five words listed is redundant?
(A) Swedish; (B) Romanian; (B) Italian; (D) Japanese; (D) loin.

5. Which of the five words listed is redundant?
(A) monkey; (B) hare; (B) lioness; (D) actress; (D) Japanese.

6. We read from A. S. Pushkin:
In scales, like the heat of grief,
The knights are coming in pairs,
And, shining with gray hair,
The guy is walking ahead
And he leads them to the city.
How did the knights go?
(A) one at a time; (B) two by two; (B) in threes; (D) eleven each; (D) thirty-three each.

7. The city of Velikiye Luki received this name due to the fact that:
(A) was famous for making bows;
(B) in its vicinity the onion grew especially large;
(B) the city was glorified by its founder Luka the Great and his son Luka Lukich;
(D) it is the headquarters of the Lukoil company;
(D) does the river on which it stands have large bends?

Problem solutions

1. To solve this problem correctly, you must not confuse sounds with letters. Let's see what sounds these words are made of. To do this, let’s write down their transcription: gender [gender], husband [mush], shey [shej’], spruce, ditch [rof]. Now let’s read the sounds in reverse order: [lop] - forehead, [noise] - noise, - eat, [l'ej] - lei. There were four words, but there is no word pronounced as [for] in the Russian language. Answer: 4 (D).

2. All these words can be understood as forms of the genitive case: all the Rabbit’s honey was not enough for Winnie the Pooh; Winnie the Pooh was not afraid of anything; Piglet had no one to wait for; Little Roo ran away from his father's house; Owl was missing some hollow object. Answer: (D).

3. The words torero and sombrero have the same form both as a subject and as a direct object. In Russian, both the subject and the object can appear either before or after the predicate, so sometimes in such cases ambiguity arises: the phrase Mother loves her daughter can be understood in two ways. However, in these sentences, ambiguity does not arise, since the subject of the verb put on must be an animate noun, and the object must be an inanimate one. Since the animate noun in the data is bullfighter, it will be the subject of both sentences. Answer: (B).

4. The words Swedish, Romanian, Italian, Japanese designate female persons of the corresponding nationality. The word Korean does not mean nationality, but a type of meat (residents of Korea are called not Koreans, but Koreans). It is redundant in meaning. Answer: (D).

5. The last four nouns denote a female creature and are correlated with nouns denoting a male creature: hare - hare, lioness - lion, actress - actor, Japanese - Japanese. The noun monkey denotes an animal regardless of gender: there are no separate nouns denoting male and female monkeys in the Russian language. It is redundant in meaning. Answer: (A).

6. What does the outdated word “cheta” mean? These are two objects or two persons, a couple. Remember such cognate words as even, combination. In this excerpt from “The Tale of Tsar Saltan,” the knights walk in pairs, two at a time. Answer: (B).

7. We will act by elimination. It is clear that the answer is not G (the name of the city is immeasurably older than the Lukoil company) and not B (there was no Luka the Great in the history of Russia, and the city in this case would have had a name like “Velikoluksk”). Option A (the onion was born especially large) is unlikely: in this case, the city would most likely receive a name like “Good [i.e. e. good] Bows.” When choosing between bow makers and river bends, let’s take into account the enormous importance that rivers played in the life of the ancient Slavs. Answer: (D).

Competition problems with solutions and comments are published annually in separate brochures, and are also published in the Russian Language newspaper. You can read more about “Russian Bear Cub” at
