About the university

East Siberian state academy Culture and Arts was opened in 1960 as the Library Institute, the third of the cultural universities in Russia. The opening of the institute played an important role in the cultural and scientific life of the Republic of Buryatia and the entire Eastern Siberia and the North. To the peoples of Siberia, Far East and the Far North had the opportunity to train their own highly qualified personnel for cultural institutions. From the first days, the Moscow and Leningrad Institutes of Culture came to the rescue. With their help, a fundamental library was created, they helped with scientific and pedagogical personnel. The Moscow and Leningrad schools were formed at the university. Famous scientists D.A. Goldstein, N.S. Kartashov, V.K. Kreidenko, I.G. Morgenstern worked here.

Today FGOU VPO "VSGAKI" is one of the leading educational institutions among cultural universities Russian Federation, a recognized scientific and educational center of Eastern Siberia and the North. The academy has about 6,000 students. Training is provided in all forms of education.
The Academy trains personnel for the republics of Buryatia, Sakha (Yakutia), Tyva, Kalmykia, Gorny Altai, Khakassia, Chita and Irkutsk regions, Aginsky and Ust-Ordynsky autonomous okrugs, teaches foreign students from Mongolia, China, Turkey, South Korea, Laos.
The structure of the academy includes 4 institutes, 2 faculties, 29 departments, postgraduate studies, dissertation councils, a center for additional educational services, an international department, a publishing and printing complex, scientific and educational laboratories, an opera studio, student theaters, a scientific library, branches and representative offices in the city. The educational process at the academy is represented by the following levels: pre-university preparation, higher professional education (specialist, bachelor and master), postgraduate training (postgraduate studies), retraining and advanced training of managers and specialists in the university profile. The range of programs being implemented and the number of qualifications taking into account the needs of the region are growing. Currently, training is conducted in 24 specialties for training certified specialists (38 qualifications), 7 areas for training bachelors; 2 areas of master's training.

Educational process, research work of students, topics of coursework and graduation papers qualification works mainly focused on practical activities students with areas of production. The educational academic complex of culture, arts and socio-cultural technologies of Eastern Siberia and the North allows not only to form together with the territories the needs in the field of culture and art, to monitor the needs of specialists and to work in order mode with consumers.

The information base is one of the best among universities of culture and arts, promoting the introduction of modern educational technologies. The educational process involves: 8 computer classes, 2 multimedia classes, 319 computers, of which 226 are connected to the Internet, and a digital recording studio.
The Academy's scientific library stock is about 500 thousand copies. An electronic library catalog has been created. Service to readers in electronic mode is carried out through the automation of workstations in the reading room and the information and bibliographic department of the library.
The Academy holds scientific and international conferences, symposiums, festivals and competitions. These are the conference "Cultural Space of Eastern Siberia and Mongolia" (together with the Mongolian State University of Culture and Arts), the scientific symposium "Baikal Meetings", the International competition of performers on stringed folk instruments of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region "Baikal Cup", a festival-competition of national dances countries of the Asia-Pacific region "Wreath of Friendship". The university is recognized as an international leader in conservation and development technology traditional cultures numerous ethnic groups of the vast region of Siberia.

International cooperation is an important area in the work of the Academy. The multifaceted cooperation of VSGAKI with the Mongolian State University of Culture and Arts is expanding. Six joint scientific conferences. There is an exchange of students and teachers for internships and practices. In 2002, the Academy was awarded the French Gold Medal (SPI) and the international Crystal Iceberg award (Scandinavian countries) for the quality of training of specialists and contribution to strategic management. A 9th magnitude star in the constellation Aquarius is named after VSGAKI.

In 2004, the university was awarded the “Best Employer of the Year” commemorative medal.

International activity

Strengthening interregional and international relations is one of the activities of the university. Today, the Academy maintains contacts with 30 countries (Germany, China, Korea, etc.), as well as with foreign universities (Warsaw University, Central European University, Oxford University, State University Ohio). In the future, cooperation is planned with the USA, Italy and Turkey.

Cooperation with foreign partners is carried out in three areas:

  • student exchanges, internships for teachers and graduate students,
  • participation in scientific programs,
  • organization and holding of international conferences and symposiums, as well as various creative events.

Since 2002, the university has been hosting a conference entitled “Cultural Space of Eastern Siberia and Mongolia,” where problems of culture and education, social and pedagogical technologies, activities in the field of culture, education and leisure, as well as the history and development of the Baikal region and Mongolia are discussed.

Also, in the period from 2004 to 2011, several international conferences were held (“Current issues in the history and culture of the countries of the peoples of the Asia-Pacific region”, “Theatrical art of Siberia: tradition and modernity”, “Russia-Mongolia: Cultural identity and intercultural interaction”) .

The university is proud of its highly professional scientific and teaching staff. The academy's teaching staff of more than 300 people are experienced specialists high school, honored workers of science, arts and culture of the Russian Federation and republics. Among them are Badagaeva T.B. - Associate Professor of the Department of Theater Arts, Honored Artist of Buryatia, laureate of the National Theater Arts Award “Golden Mask” for directing the play “Heavenly Argamak”. Vampilova T. B. is a teacher at the Institute of Dance, laureate of the State Prize “Soul of Russia”, she is the head of the Evenki dance studio “Guluvun”, which participated in the festival-marathon “Songs of Russia” (project manager - People’s Artist of Russia Nadezhda Babkina) and at a gala concert at the Kremlin Palace of Congresses. Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Music A.B. Subanova became a laureate of the 1st degree at the international festival-competition “Folklore Without Borders” (Bulgaria).

VSGAKI is actively developing strategic partnerships, attracting well-known business structures and government organizations in the region. The Academy consciously builds such schemes of interaction with partners that help to understand market requirements well and prepare students to work in real conditions today.

The Development Concept of the Federal State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education VSGAKI until 2015 was developed and adopted.
