"Portrait of a Warrior": Military Medical Academy. Studying at the Military Medical Academy Studying at the Military Medical Academy

As part of the “Portrait of a Warrior” section, the site spoke with a cadet of the St. Petersburg Military Medical Academy named after S. M. Kirov. He told how he turned from a conscript rocket engineer into a military medic and how his profession was affected by the cancellation of some reforms of the former Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Anatoly Serdyukov.

Tell us how you joined the service.

I am currently serving at the Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg. Before that, he served in the 29th Missile Division in the city of Irkutsk. In the ninth month of service, I wanted to sign a contract and they offered me to go get a military education and serve in the future, already having a rank. I am receiving secondary vocational education here, studying to become a military paramedic. Got into the first set. Under Serdyukov (former Minister of Defense - ed.), military paramedics were no longer produced.

Before being called up for military service, I was registered in two cities - Irkutsk, where I lived and worked, and Ust-Ilimsk. I checked in every time in Irkutsk, but not in Ust-Ilimsk. There I walked like a draft dodger. I came once again to figure it out. The problem was solved. They offered to serve - I did not refuse. Basically, I went with the desire to serve and I was lucky. Got to the good part.

What do you know about the history of the academy?

The Academy was founded under Paul the First, in 1798. Such famous figures as S.P. worked and taught there at one time. Botkin, Arbelli, Pavlov. On the basis of the academy, clinics-departments have been deployed in various fields of medical care and, in particular, military medical care. Its graduates are participants in combat operations in Afghanistan, Chechnya, the Second and First World Wars, the Crimean War, and the Russo-Japanese War. IN curriculum- its own scientific base, a rich anatomical museum, the opportunity for clinical practice for students. That's it in a nutshell.

How are you fed? What do you usually have for breakfast, lunch and dinner? What is the approximate weight or serving size?

To be honest, I haven’t checked the portion sizes with the norm, but, in general, the portions are sufficient. You can also ask for more if you are really hungry. In terms of food, the food is not bad, but in comparison. My missile division had poor training. Those from other parts have it worse. Breakfast is mostly standard - porridge, egg, cheese, butter, coffee or chicory, sometimes an omelet.

Lunch: first - soup (cabbage soup, pea soup, borscht, etc.), second - meat, chicken with side dishes (potatoes, rice, buckwheat, pea puree), salad and salad bar, where there is lard and legumes , and fresh vegetables and herbs. And compote. Dinner is usually potatoes or cabbage with fish. Sometimes there are dumplings for breakfast and dumplings for dinner. There are also baked goods for tea.

What conditions do you live in, what opportunities do you have for conducting free time in the part itself and beyond? How are you spending your holidays?

We live in a new hotel-type dormitory, it was completed last year. Cubicles for 3 rooms, 2 people per room. There is a separate wardrobe and bathroom in the cockpit.

At the end of the scheduled time, contract soldiers can go to the city to do their business. We take advantage of our position as a cadet - we visit museums or walk around the sights, primarily the historical center. I meet my girlfriend, visit a cafe and a cinema. For married people, there is the opportunity to get housing, or rent it yourself and live outside the barracks.

Tell us about your personal and team achievements during your service.

During his military service, he was noted for both his guard duty and his shooting skills. If I had not left, they would have been appointed to a good position. At the Academy - participation in the parade to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War Patriotic War, a commemorative medal was awarded. Also, for the success of the service, he was awarded the military rank of corporal, thanks from the head of the course, the faculty and from the combat department for the detention of offenders. Academic achievements are excellent. Only one four in the winter session and two in the summer. In other words - in good standing. And, of course, it is worth noting the extensive clinical practice. What else does it give? greater confidence in the chosen profession.

What rank would you like to reach in the armed forces? Where would you like to serve after graduation?

First of all, I want to graduate from the academy and, if possible, receive a higher medical education there. Rank - captain or major. Although, to be honest, if life works out, it would be nice to retire as a colonel. The main thing is that the place of employment is good. With a good regional coefficient, there would be a corresponding position and the experience would last for two or one and a half years.

Tell us about the relationship between officers and enlisted men. Do commanders help solve problems?

The relationship is not only good, I would say, trusting. You can always approach your superiors with your problem, even a personal one, and, if possible, the commander will always help. I observed this even in the unit. Of course, in other faculties and units there is a different type of officer. But it is ours who can be called fathers-commanders.

Are you satisfied with the current level of technical equipment of your department?

Satisfied. Both in academic and everyday life. At one time, under the old political officer, the academy was given an iron and ironing board, a refrigerator, a kettle, a microwave and a TV for a room (two people). True, then only the TV was left. By order. Like, it doesn’t matter that they are contract soldiers, first year, it’s too early. We built a consumer services plant. In the educational sector, we are based at the academy, where the equipment cannot but please us.

How do you assess the quality of combat training in the unit?

In terms of combat training, military medical exercises are held every summer. Some are taught in physical training classes. Sometimes, it seems to me that more time could have been spent on this. True, this will cause problems with the educational process. I would rate it 3.5 out of 5.

What would be the first thing you would improve if you became a unit or unit commander?

Hard to tell. Honestly, I didn't think so. Perhaps, knowing the problems of the army, he would have worked to improve supplies, the possibility of improving living conditions, the possibility of developing leisure time for his subordinates, as, in principle, many commanders. Everything will depend on the position and the specific conditions of the unit or position.

Recently, the Military Medical Academy graduated cadets

Another 350 young people received the profession of military doctor. And all the graduates were distributed to garrisons.

Sergei Yaroslavovich Ivanusa (pictured) graduated with honors from the Military Medical Academy in 1986 - faculty of training doctors for Navy. Now a professor, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Colonel of the Ivanus Medical Service - Head of the Department of General Surgery.

By the way, not only Sergei Yaroslavovich’s profession is connected with the sea, but also his hobby. He has been involved in yachting since his student days. He has many sailing regattas to his credit, including the Grand Regatta Columbus, dedicated to the discovery of America by Columbus, the route of which included 11 seas.

Much reminds of the sea elements in Sergei Yaroslavovich’s office. And one of the exhibits is a model of the submarine on which he once served after graduating from the academy.

— Sergey Yaroslavovich, how does the training of a military doctor differ from the training of a civilian doctor?
— We train specialists who can work in extreme conditions, including fighting, various geographical and weather conditions, the need to work “from wheels”. Moreover, the academy also takes into account the specifics of the military branches. For example, while studying at the faculty of training doctors for the Navy, I underwent training in lifting from the depths, and in emergency exit from a submarine through a torpedo tube, and mastered the elements of diving. Of course, all cadets undergo certain army training - starting with the young fighter course, immediately after enrolling freshmen. It is very important to prepare in advance for army life, and not to take a civilian doctor into the garrison, as is sometimes suggested. Because the army is also about subordination, strict execution of orders, the need, as it is written in the regulations, to “steadfastly endure the hardships and deprivations of military service.” In general, I believe that the Academy, as a higher medical educational institution with vast experience in training doctors to work in extreme conditions, could become an all-Russian center for training doctors not only for the army, but also for other law enforcement agencies. So that there is a unified doctrine for providing medical care in extreme conditions.

— Why did you choose the profession of a Navy surgeon?
— You know, from time immemorial, VMedA was secretly called the Turgenev Academy - this is by analogy with the title of the novel “Fathers and Sons.” Because quite a few medical dynasties have formed within the walls of the academy. And there is nothing wrong with this: if a person has absorbed the “spirit of a specialty” since childhood, then he is genealogically prepared for it. Since childhood, he has heard conversations about work, specific medical terms, sees how much his father or grandfather is respected by colleagues and patients. I followed in the footsteps of my father, a Navy surgeon. My father, Yaroslav Mikhailovich, served in Sakhalin, in the Baltic. He retired as the Navy's Surgeon General. But our dynasty is only two generations old. Father and me. My daughter chose a specialty for herself that is far from medicine.

— Where were you assigned after graduating from the academy?
— To the Baltic Fleet, head of the medical service of a medium submarine. Don't know what a medium submarine is? This is a diesel submarine, 80 meters long, with a crew of 60, of which 40 are sailors.

- You visited a hot spot - Kosovo...
— In 1988, I returned to the academy as an adjunct, that is, by analogy with a civilian university, I entered graduate school. Since this year I have been on the staff of the Department of General Surgery. In 2000, orders came for doctors for the peacekeeping contingent in Kosovo. The management said: “You haven’t been anywhere yet, go.” The business trip was for a year. Whereas NATO doctors in those days were sent for 3 months. They believed that they could not withstand any more extreme conditions without damaging their own health.

Let's not talk about politics. The task of a military man is to carry out orders, not to discuss the situation. In 2000, Kosovo was already relatively calm in terms of active hostilities, but human tensions persisted. The Albanian diaspora actively pushed the Serbian diaspora out of their traditional places of residence. And another feature of the period was the presence large quantity people with weapons. Our hospital was deployed not in an open field, but in the building of a former pharmaceutical factory, which aroused some envy among doctors of other peacekeeping missions, who were forced to deploy modular tents. The hospital was designed for 45 beds. They brought to us both our military personnel and the local population - Serbs. I note that the Serbs sought treatment specifically from the Russians, apparently as their Slavic brothers. How calm was it? They could have planted a grenade on the territory of the hospital (fortunately, it did not explode, the mines were neutralized), there were protest demonstrations near the hospital (Albanians - because we were treating some famous Serb). There were also shootings somewhere. They went on patrols and to distant points in armored vehicles or accompanied by machine gunners. Naturally, like everyone else, I was given a personal weapon.

- And what was the worst thing for you?
— There was probably no panic fear in the universal human understanding. But from time to time it was scary that you understand: the situation is such that at any moment peacekeeping activities can turn into military operations. It's permanently huge psychological stress, aggravated by the distance from home, the difficulty of simply calling home, the picture of destruction around, the need to work in a closed team. The hospital resembled a large submarine sailing autonomously.

We talked a lot with doctors from peacekeeping missions of other countries. It turned out that their number of suicide attempts and psychological breakdowns among their staff is immeasurably higher than ours. Although, I repeat, the duration of their business trips was four times shorter. We practically didn’t have all this. That is, Russian military personnel, and doctors in particular, were more adapted to working in extreme conditions. This is a consequence not only of Russian character, but also of academic preparation.

— There is a lot of talk now about modernizing the academy; funds have already been allocated for the first stage. The Academy will have to develop in the territories it has traditionally occupied...

— Yes, the tension of last year in connection with the proposed relocation to Gorskaya has passed. But the academy undoubtedly needs further development. It is planned to build a medical and rehabilitation center in the countryside, a modern oncology center, which can also only be located outside the city (equipment for radiological treatment cannot be installed in the city center). That is, we need some other territory. And the cancer center is needed not only by military personnel, but also by city residents. Because the incidence is growing, and the existing specialized clinics are still not enough.

By the way

Ruslan Tsalikov, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, was present at the ceremonial graduation of cadets of the Military Medical Academy. He confirmed that the academy will develop in historical territories, that money for modernization has been allocated and will continue to be allocated, and that the academy will also expand outside the historical territories. Where exactly has not yet been determined.
