There are only two main rules in our club (click on a link to expand the detailed info):
You are not allowed to speak Russian in the club, because this contrasts with the main purpose of our meetings to create an English-speaking atmosphere. If you don't know some word, try to explain its meaning instead of saying it in Russian, other people may happen to know this word. (Writing the word in Russian is no better). If you really need to speak Russian (e.g. by phone), you can go out. Although we don't have similar rules for speaking other languages, communication in French, German or Farsi is not encouraged either.
Coming to the club might be a great step in the development of your speaking ability, but organizing something yourself is a greater one. During other people's meetings you might or might not have a chance to practice speaking on your own, but if this is your period, you have to. First, you come up with ideas; then, you study while preparing the material and perhaps learn some new words; finally, you speak and react to what other people say. Besides, you can get a good feedback from other club members (on your ideas or language). Why not to try?
